888 Poker Overview

Welcome to our 888 poker Android app review. 888 Poker is the fastest growing poker room in the world, and looks certain to lock up the number two spot in terms of poker traffic very soon. 888 have been around since the very early days of online poker under the guise of Pacific Poker, and if you’ve been around online poker a while you’ll remember the days when Pacific Poker was a huge site, despite their horrible software. Recently, they decided to re-brand and the owners Cassava Enterprises brought the poker brand under the 888 umbrella, completely overhauling their poker offering along the way, and the results have been really good. They are pioneering a lot of new features in online poker such as webcam tables, and their dedicated Android poker app was eagerly awaited and one of the first on the market in early 2012.

The 888 Poker software for Android customers is top of the line and beats out most of the competition in terms of user friendliness. If you want to download the app simply visit the 888 Poker mobile site and download the app (~10MB) from the page. In order to install it, you’ll need to allow non-marketplace apps in your settings. Once you have the app installed, open it up and it will prompt you to sign up to 888 Poker.

Filling out forms on mobiles and tablets is a bit of pain, but they’ve made it relatively simple with big, clear fields for all of your details as shown on the right, and they’ve kept the information that they request from you to a minimum.

From there, enter your username and password and you’ll be in the lobby ready to choose a game. At the moment cash games  and sit n go tournaments are supported, however 888 is improving the product all the time and higher stakes players as well as MTTs are expected to be catered for soon. Currently fixed limit, pot limit and no limit Holdem games are available but Omaha is expected in the near future.

The software is very easy to use and the action buttons are big and well spaced apart and misclicks shouldn’t be a problem even on smaller android mobile devices like HTC and Samsung mobile phones. As you can see from the screenshot, the tables are a little cluttered but as you are only able to play one game at a time, you won’t have much problem following the action.

You can also turn avatars off if they’re annoying you too much. Your bet sizes are set using a slider that pops up on the right hand side of the screen and it’s pretty easy to get the hang of. You can also use the +/- buttons to set your bet size which tends to be easier, particularly if you’re playing while on the move in a car which is bumping around a bit!

888 Poker Android Game Selection

At the moment 888’s Android app only caters for low stakes holdem (up to the $1/$2 No Limit level), but after further testing plans are in place to add higher stakes games and Omaha to the mix. Sit and go action was added in July 2012 and multi-table tournaments have just been added in August 2013 which is a move that’s sure to see the app become very popular. When playing poker on your Android device, you’re in the same player pool as people who are playing on their PCs and as such, you’ll never be stuck for a game, as 888 is one of the biggest sites going and has cash game traffic around the clock. What’s more, 888 Poker is notorious for being one of the easiest poker sites to win on. There are legions of fish that flock to the poker tables at 888 from their casino and sports betting site and they’re nothing short of terrible at poker. 888 definitely gets the nod as the softest Android poker site.

888 Poker Bonus and Promotions

888 came back to the top of the online poker tree by offering very generous deposit bonuses and running great promotions all year round, and their satellites send more players the World Series of Poker than any other poker site except Pokerstars. The also have satellites to the World Poker Tour and other live events, as well as their own ultra-deep-stacked live tournament circuit known as the Superstack Series. They have a really generous offer going where they give you €8 or £12 (depending on your country) absolutely free when you sign-up at the site, and you can use this money to test out real-money play on the app. There’s no catch and you don’t have to deposit anything. Just set up an account and the money will be there waiting for you. What’s more AndroidPokerSites.com players have access to an exclusive very easy to clear $600 initial deposit bonus.

Compatibility

The 888poker app will work with most Android devices, but not all. The limitation is on droids that don’t support Adobe Air, as this is the software that runs that app on your phone, so if you can’t install Adobe Air you won’t be able to install the 888 app. Some phones on which it won’t work are the Samsung Galaxy Ace and the HTC Wildfire S. If you’ve just bought a new Google Nexus 7, you’ll be glad to know that 888 works no problem on it.

To see a list of phones that support the app, click on the image to the right. Note that this list isn’t exhaustive and was made before a lot of the newer models came out. All newer models will work. If your phone isn’t compatible with 888poker, it’s unlikely that Unibet or bwin will work either, so we suggest you try Terminal Poker or Switch Poker, which run from your phone’s browser.

So in summary, if you’re looking for a no nonsense app to play Holdem cash games or sit n go tournaments which are full of fishy competition, then 888 is the place to go. With their free money offer you’ve got nothing to lose by trying it out anyway!
